Twelve Literary Arts

An ecosystem for poets and writers of color

Room 201: Teaching Workshops

Room 201 is our FREE series of youth workshops provided to schools across Northeast Ohio. Thanks to the generous support of The Cleveland Foundation, Twelve Literary Arts is able to provide 4 - 8 week-long residencies for all qualifying public, private, and charter schools.  Our experienced teaching artists provide lessons across eight literary arts content areas including:

  1. Introduction to Poetry
  2. Poetry for publication
  3. Poetry for performance
  4. Introduction Flash Fiction
  5. Playwriting for Social Change
  6. Hip Hop Culture and the Craft of MCing
  7. Literary Theory
  8. Screenwriting and Film Studies

Room 201 teaching artists nurture and develop young creative writers, but we also strive to develop critically-conscious youth leaders. Our workshops provide innovative and culturally-responsive approaches to language, writing, society and culture.

Our long-term residencies have the potential to change student lives, improve school climates, and create tangible application between information on standardized achievement tests with experiences in the real world.
